AAA OBSERVERS GROUP
The Observers Group meets one night a month from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, usually on the last Tuesday, at our new headquarters, the Downtown Community Center at 120 Warren Street in lower Manhattan. Here members report on what they have seen recently, discuss upcoming events of interest, both terrestrial and celestial, and chat on any relevant topic from equipment to observing techniques to finding good observing sites. Participants are encouraged to give presentations in their areas of expertise.
We usually meet an hour earlier, at 5:30 PM, at the Gee Whiz Diner on the corner of Warren Street and Greenwich Street. Join us for a bite to eat before the group meets.
At our new location we have internet access, and with our own laptop computer and planetarium program we can display the currently visible constellations in the night sky, upcoming gatherings of planets and any bright comets. We can illustrate the movements of stars, planets and other bodies over the course of a night or from night-to-night. If the weather permits, we will head to the nearby Hudson River or High Line to do some starwatching afterwards.
The Observers Group now has its own mailing list. If you would like to be on it, just say so in an e-mail to obsgrp@aaa.org.
