2024 Autumn Starfest: A Look Back
On Saturday October 12th, the AAA held its annual Autumn Starfest in Central Park’s East Meadow. For anyone who does not know, our very first Starfest was held in 1995 and has since become an AAA tradition.
This year’s Starfest featured a special guest speaker, Prof. Janna Levin, Columbia University Astrophysicist and Science Director at Pioneer Works. Her presentation on black holes was undoubtedly the event’s highlight, with a large group of people sitting in the grass by the big screen listening in.
With about 20 telescopes supplied by AAA members, attendees were treated to lovely views of the Moon, Saturn and star clusters. Another Starfest tradition is the raffle prize, where the lucky winner receives a telescope.
With the success of our autumn event, the AAA holds a Spring Starfest each year as well. I urge all members with telescopes to come out and join the fun at both spring and autumn Starfests. You’ll have a wonderful time sharing the night sky with others!
