Revealing the Universe Through Imagery

The AAA Astrophotography Group
We set world-class standards in celestial imaging, blending artistic vision with cutting-edge technology. Guided by internationally acclaimed photographer Stan Honda, whose work has graced the pages of Sky & Telescope, National Geographic Traveler, and The New York Times Magazine, this group is a beacon of excellence in capturing the wonders of the cosmos.
Award-Winning Quality
Home to multiple recipients of NASA’s prestigious “Astronomy Picture of the Day” (APOD), the group specializes in a wide range of astrophotography disciplines. From breathtaking nightscape photography to intricate deep-sky object (DSO) captures, and from planetary and solar imaging to mesmerizing eclipse, time- lapse, and star trail compositions, their output spans the full spectrum of celestial artistry.
Embark on a journey where science meets art, transforming the mysteries of the night sky into stunning works of visual storytelling.
Education
At the core of the AAA Astrophotography Group is a commitment to education and collaboration, fostering a passion for celestial photography across all skill levels. The group offers a wide range of learning opportunities, including engaging classes, immersive field trips, and hands-on instructional sessions tailored for adults, students, and the general public.
Beginners are inspired through entry-level courses that demystify the basics of astrophotography, while experienced photographers can refine their craft through advanced workshops on post-processing and professional-grade techniques. Participants explore a variety of astrophotography disciplines, from capturing the intricate beauty of the Milky Way to crafting mesmerizing time-lapse videos and stunning star trail compositions.
Gateway Remote Telescope
Join us on a journey to explore the universe with the Gateway Remote Telescope Project! We operate two telescopes under dark skies: Gateway North, based in Ft. Davis, Texas and Gateway South in Rio Hurtado, Chile. Both are high end refractors with state-of-the-art cameras and mounts giving us excellent images of the northern and southern sky.
As an AAA member, you can sign up for access to one or both telescopes at a tier level that suits your budget and interests. All paid tiers have access to all of the high-quality Gateway data. See the images produced by our members on the Gallery page.
We’re also piloting partnerships with schools and nonprofit organizations to broaden Gateway’s impact—sharing the beauty and science of astrophotography with a wider, more diverse audience.
