FREE CLASS. FIRST OF A TWO-PART EVENT.
Preview/Review of Chemistry, Atoms and Half-life
Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, 7-9 PM, via Zoom.
Dr. David Helfand of Columbia University will review basic chemistry, including the half-life of radioactive atoms. This will serve as a preview for his subsequent four-session class, The Universal Timekeepers: Reconstructing History Atom by Atom.
This subsequent course explores how we use radioactive isotopes as cosmic clocks, a key tool in all sciences including cosmology. This course is an elaboration of a public AAA lecture Dr. Helfand gave in 2019. Its title is also the title of his just-released book. A description and registration for this separate “Universal Timekeepers” course will soon be posted on this “Classes” page at AAA.org.
