Welcome to our continued Basic Telescope Operation and Observing Tips series!
Do you have a telescope that you are not quite sure how to use? Would you like to improve your observing skills? Starting in March, AAA is offering free hands-on teaching sessions for members to learn the fundamentals of how to use their telescopes and build their stargazing ability.
In each session, attendees will learn from veteran and experienced observers and be guided through the below topics.
- Basic telescope set up and operation
- Locating bright celestial objects
- Enhancing your observing skills
- Questions and troubleshooting
- Explaining telescopes and sky objects to the public
These sessions will be in a private space and will not be open to the general public, so members will be able to learn without distractions.
All members are invited! Even if you don’t have a telescope but would like to learn, feel free to attend. We also encourage you to utilize the AAA telescope loaner program.

- J Train: Broadway Junction-East New York station.
- A or C Train: to Broadway Junction-East New York station.
How to enter the venue and finding the meeting site:
- Enter the cemetery main gate at the intersection of Bushwick Ave. & Conway St. (Map below)
- There should be a staff member at the gate or parked in a vehicle at the gate. Tell the staff member that you are here for the astronomy event and they will open the gate for you.
After entering the main gate, head up the path to the central building. Map below:
