Basic Telescope Operation and Observing Tips (2025)
FREE hands-on instruction with experienced observers.
Do you have a telescope that you are not quite sure how to use? Would you like to improve your observing skills? AAA is offering free hands-on teaching sessions for members to learn the fundamentals of how to use their telescopes and build their stargazing ability.
In each session, attendees will learn from veteran and experienced observers and be guided through topics such as
• Basic telescope set up and operation
• Locating bright celestial objects
• Enhancing your observing skills
• Questions and troubleshooting
• Explaining telescopes and sky objects to the public

These sessions will be in a private space and will not be open to the general public, so members will be able to learn without distractions.
All members are invited! Even if you don’t have a telescope but would like to learn, feel free to attend. We also encourage you to utilize the AAA telescope loaner program. We will try to offer you a telescope for this training and future use at AAA events.
