Join Columbia University for their lecture series on Friday, March 1, 2024 with Dr. Josh Forer. When we think of astronomy, what comes to mind? Stars? Black holes? Galaxies? Well, what about chemistry? In this talk, we’ll discuss how simple atoms come together to form some of our favorite structures in the night sky, and how molecules can speak to us from light years away — all in the universe’s biggest laboratory.
We will start the evening at 6:00pm with some astronomy trivia, followed by Dr. Forer’s talk. From 7:10pm – 8:10pm, we will be outside stargazing on College Walk (weather permitting). This event is free and open to all — stay only as long as you want. If you plan to attend this event, please fill out the RSVP form at tinyurl.com/columbia-astro-mar1
The lecture will take place in Pupin Hall 301. Signs will be posted to direct you to the lecture hall, and general directions to Columbia and Pupin Hall can be found under the “Directions” tab. Outdoor observing/stargazing will take place on College Walk, the portion of 116th street crossing through Columbia’s main campus; we will walk down to College Walk as a group following the lecture and Q&A. Telescopes and binoculars will be provided by Columbia Astronomy.
