Constellations of the Zodiac (2024)

June 20 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM EDT

(This page is under construction.)

Celebrate the summer solstice with a free AAA class:

The Constellations of the Zodiac

Thursday, June 20, 7-9 PM, online

This class focuses on the history and stories of the Zodiac constellations, which are a dozen of the 88 total official star constellations. They’re unique because the sun is positioned in front of these 12 constellations over a year. They were vital to the ancient beliefs of astrology and have a rich history in modern astronomy.

At 4:50 PM EDT on this day – June 20, 2024 –  the north tip of Earth’s axis points with maximum inclination towards the sun. This results in the longest day and shortest night in the Northern Hemisphere. Also the sun reaches its highest point in our hemisphere’s sky. It’s the official start of astronomical summer.

Our instructor is Lydia Maria Petrosino, AAA resource on astronomy history and sky myths, and former presenter at NYC’s Hayden Planetarium.

Registration (no fee) begins here on June 1.
