AAA President Message – December

Dear Members,

Seasons Greetings. It’s the time of year-end festivities where many of us reflect and celebrate on the past year, readying to ring in a new one. I hope that you and your families enjoy and value the time we share together.

The annual AAA Holiday Party planning is underway. We are aiming for Wednesday, 10 January 2018, held at Bierocracy in Long Island City, Queens. More details will follow in subsequent email blasts and social media announcements that alert AAA members only. All Members are encouraged to attend and I hope to see you there!

A big change will occur with Eyepiece. The Board of Directors voted to discontinue the print edition and replace it with a web-based platform for publishing and distribution. The current schedule is to produce three more print editions and its emailed PDF version, including this month’s, and then replace with the web-based edition. More details will be provided each month in Eyepiece and other club communications.

Keep in mind the next Lecture, Robert Nemiroff presents “Astronomy Picture of the Day”, on 05 January 2018. Each of the past three Lectures were well received by the audience, followed by some really great Q&A between the audience and guest speaker. Details & schedule are found on our webpage at www.aaa.org/lectures.

The season changes and so has the weather. The public stargazing events in the five boroughs have finished for the season, to return in Spring 2018. For the greater part of the year, we have showcased the natural world around us, our attention on the night sky bustling with stars, planets, meteors, clouds, & space stations. “Thank you” to each Event Coordinator and all the Volunteers with and without telescopes and cameras that show up to inspire the public.
